The AirFlow Breeze Home Heating/Cooling System (Brown) (Fits 4"W x 10"L opening) Review

I ordered this product for our upstairs bedroom vent to help cool the room. The thermostat to control the fan speed is a great idea, but ours doesn't consistently run only when the AC kicks on. When it does run, it's not exactly quiet and kind of annoying. However, we do manage to sleep through it fine. Overall though, I gave this product only 2 stars because it doesn't force that much more cold air into the room. It would also be helpful if the vent slats were directional. Running the fan function by itself (not with the AC) produces no extra cold air, only air movement.
After purchasing one, I hoped it would work at least okay to purchase another for my upstairs office. Instead, I'm shelling out the money for a free standing AC unit. I'd advise you to do the same if you want cold air.

The Hole Pro X-230 is a well built tool that makes the task of cutting holes much simpler. If you are required to cut holes into drywall, you cannot live without this tool. It is also capable of cutting woods, plastics, and other materials.

This worked great with my puny 14.4v Dewalt drill. The plastic shield does an *excellent* job of containing dust, debris, and flying chunks. Anyone doing renovation work or a job where cleanup is a big issue, this is a must have tool. I cannot ever imagine going back to cutting holes with a drywall saw.

All of the parts are heavy duty and well built. The shield doesn't leave marks, the blades are strong, and the spinning motion is perfectly balanced. Do not waste your money with the cheaper imitations (~$50).

Because the saw blades are adjustable, this can literally replace a dozen hole saws of various sizes. The only reason to keep hole saws is for specialty applications such as cutting metal or tight locations. While the shield is removable, the "bar" that the blades attach to is a fixed length.

COLORfph70ac Review

We broke the bank an bought this fan to top off the remodel of our outdoor porch. It is an absolute show-stopper. The materials and craftsmanship are terrific, as you would expect at this price. And even at its highest speeds it is amazingly quiet.

All that said, it has one great drawback: it does little to actually move the air.

At this price we were expecting the Big Three to want to borrow it to power their wind tunnel tests. But from distances exceeding two feet, it's feels like a hand blow-dryer on low. I actually called the company to see if I was doing something wrong. They shrugged their shoulders (over the phone) as if they've heard this complaint quite a bit. On really hot days we pull out our $17 oscilating fan from Wal-Mart. It performs much better.

So this fan is truly the case study for form over function. If you need a great prop for a movie set this is the fan for you.If you actually intend to use the fan as a cooling device, you may be disappointed.

I bought the 8" model and it worked so well that I gave it to my partner and bought myself the 12" hole cutter. It is amazing how well it cuts and I can cut the exact size hole from under 2 inches to 12 inches in size. There have been two problems with cutting holes, getting the right size hole saw, and not getting hurt when the hole saw gets stuck and the drill starts to spin around the other direction with me still holding on. With this hole cutter I have cut hole up to 12 inches in diameter in wood with my old ½ drill and feel safe doing it.

I like the dust shield that catches all the shavings. It makes cleanup a breeze even when cutting holes in the ceiling. I put in recessed ceiling lights all through my house and this cutter made the job quick and easy. I did not need to make a template, just decide where the can was going and center the hole cutter and cut. The cut plug is held by the dust shield and all I needed to do was flip it over and drop the plug into a 5 gallon bucket I tied to the ladder. With the slots in the shield it is very strong and it makes it easy to watch as it is cutting. There is no cross brace needed for this composite plastic dust shield so it is much faster to wipe clean when done.

The blades are very fast to change and the HSS blades cut very cleanly and the tungsten carbide blades last a long time.

Only complaint is that information was very limited on Amazon website.
Forunately my fiance had looked around before going on Amazon and had found the same fan light elsewhere.
For anyone interested - the picture is not a good representation of the colour (it's kinda frosted cream I guess, doesn't picture well)
And it doesn't come with lights included - you will need two candelabra base bulbs.
Still a good Hunter product - I suppose information for it might be found on their website.

As a skylight installer, the faster I can get the job done the more money I make.This adjustable hole cutter from Hole Pro saves me time on the job. With the dust shield and its soft rubber edge I get a good seal so shavings don't go all over the place and I don't have to worry about the cut piece falling on something and causing damage. So I don't have to move as much furniture or use drop cloths over everything and I don't need to trace a template circle for the cutout.

The shield also can be used to adjust the depth of the cut so I don't accidentally cut something up in the ceiling including a beam. With the two blades it cuts fast even at lower rpms, and it makes a real clean hole even in plaster ceilings.

It is a very well made tool and the plastic dust shield is light but tough and will hold up on the job. The blades are quick to change if I want to use the high speed steel blades instead of the tungsten carbide ones. Both kinds are included in the case with the hole cutter. I do need to make sure that the three prongs of the drill chuck line up with the 3/8 inch shaft of the hole cutter which has three flattened sides for better grip. The keyless chucks also seem to work better than the ones that need a key and tightening each side of the drill chuck.

I now install 10 inch and 14 inch tubular skylights but if I start to install a different size skylight the hole cutter is quick to adjust to any size tubular skylight being made today up to the 16 inch sizes. I still use a sawzall on the roof but there the debris falls into the attic. Inside the customer's home where I am making the ceiling hole this tool saves me time and customers appreciate that there is less disruption and dust and I am in and out of the job site faster.

30 in. 2 speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan Review

I grew up with house fans, and this one worked just the way I remember it. Open a few windows, turn the fan on and... a lot of air gets sucked in the open windows. It's great on cool evenings after a hot day. Small children passing too close to the windows are liable to get sucked through when this thing is on. It's not too noisy either. It does make noise, but the belt drive system seems to help make it run quieter. I wouldn't instal it in the middle of the living room, but it's not loud enough to disturb you if you put it in a hallway. I will say that the shutters are a little cheap. But they work the way they are supposed to. They close when the fan is off, to what looks like a mostly air tight seal.

I bought this tool to cut duct outlets for high velocity AC systems I install from Unico. I have used the X-305 model for Airtec MV diffusers and this smaller size uses the same blades and has the same great build quality.

It is easy to adjust the size hole and I can use a cordless drill to cut holes where if I used a hole saw I would need to use a cord drill and an extension cord and worry about clean cuts and have all the dust and shavings to cleanup afterwards. I used it with the high speed steel blades to cut 20 holes in a 5/8" tongue and groove wood ceiling for 5 inch light cans in less than an hour. And I used an old 18 volt Milwaukee cordless drill that uses NiCad battery packs.

I even cut speaker holes in my boat using the tungsten carbide blades to cut holes through the gelcoat and fiberglass. For a tight fit I needed to make a 5-1/8" cutout for the waterproof speakers. Try to find a hole saw that is 5-1/8" - it does not exist.

The 7 inch diameter shield makes it easy to get the tool in tight spaces or close to the edge of a soffit or cabinet and also keeps the cutter perpendicular. I like that I can adjust how deep it cuts so I don't need to worry about cutting something hidden behind the wall or clipping a beam.

The storage case is very high quality, and much better than the cases with the tools I have bought. I like having everything I need in a single case, including spare blades.

I like to buy a tool that will last for many years of use and the Hole Pro hole cutters are that kind of tool. Everything about them is first class.

Very elegant fan, crystal base eludes to a much more expensive fan. Works great, looks great, only problem is, be aware to get the intermediate light bulbs for the light system.Had a hard time finding the 60 watt,
ordered them from Amazon.com at a very reasonable price with speedy delivery. Don't use 40 watt, too dark, 60 watt is perfect. Also my electrician stated small lights in the crystal base is very hard to replace when they burn out.Need to remove all blades and the housing unit to replace the small bulbs, so I won't be using the base lights very much.But over all very nice fan with a great look.

Smarthome Insteon Switchlinc V2 Relay Review

I've installed nearly 60 Insteon devices into our home, including many of these On/Off switches, similar dimmer switches, motion detectors, garage door sensors than can open / close the door, keypads, and thermostats for controlling the heating and air conditioning.

The house went from dumb to smart for a fraction of the cost of the high end systems because these Insteon devices communicate with each other (and your Mac or PC) via existing electrical wiring in most homes.They wire a little differently than typical switches in that where most switches are just connected to a ground, load, and line; these are connected to the ground, load, line, and neutral wires in the box.(Get an electrician to install them for you, it won't add much to the cost and will be the safest way to avoid inherent electrical dangers).

Our porch and exterior lights now turn on at sunset and off at sunrise (or earlier if we want) because our computer knows what time to send the on/off signal each day.When the kids leave the basement playroom, all 8 ceiling lights turn off after no motion is sensed for a few minutes.Same thing in the kitchen, and I'll be adding motion sensors to the stairway lights so that a nice, low light will automatically come on when we check on the kids in the middle of the night to avoid stumbles and falls (in the evening, the same motion sensor could turn it on but with full power).

My wife really likes the smart switches, which can be customized with engravings like "Exhaust Fan On" or "Movie Scene."Movie scene allows us to press one button that turns on four sets of lights around our family room, turns on the TV, sets the stereo and other components to their proper settings, then slowly dims to darkness as we settle into the couch.

You could even program this switch (or a keypad) to control heating or cooling.For example, instal one of these so that pressing up or down will raise or lower the temperature setting in that zone of your house one degree per press.It could be a permanent adjustment or could revert back to the "normal" or "energy efficient" settings after some period of time or until a motion sensor detects that you've left that room.

We love this system.

BTW, we run it using Indigo software on a Mac, which is great.PC software can integrate with it, too.

Emerson Midway II CF929BS in Brushed Steel Review

This is an expensive fan -- at the high end of the range for ceiling fans of this type.But I liked the look and the fact that it uses an energy efficient fluorescent bulb.The fan ships direct from the factory, and the first fan I received was the wrong fan packed in the wrong box.Poor quality control at the Emerson factory.Still, these things happen, so I returned it and got a replacement about a week later.

The new unit was the right model, but still had several problems.A deformed housing is probably the biggest problem, causing the blades to be out of alignment, and causing a severe wobble -- especially at the higher speeds.

Problem 2 was that the "maple" blades advertised are actually ugly plastic blades with a fake wood pattern printed on them.Very cheap and disappointing.

The bulb is advertised as dimmable, but this isn't the case.It's pretty much on or off.There is the slightest change in brightness when holding the dimmer button, but it is almost impossible to even notice.Turning the light on and off sometimes requires a "double click" on the remote, other times, just one click.Confusing and hard to use.

Lastly, the remote is extremely problematic.The 20 foot advertised range is greatly overstated, as the remote only works from 3 - 5 feet away (you have to be directly under the fan for it to work).And even when standing right at the fan, the remote only works some of the time (and with a very noticable delay).

For the price (or at any price), this is an extremely low quality fan, with poor quality control from the factory.Best to avoid.

Hunter 28267 18-Inch Downrod, Weathered Bronze Review

There isnt much to say. It's a piece of pipe to lower your fan away from the ceiling.
I have a 17 foot vaulted ceilings that comes too close to the fan blades if left as they were. The fan needed to be lowered
a few inches more than the downrod provided with the Hunter fan. This did the trick for me.
It matched the bronze fan perfectly and was easy to install. These come in different lengths.
Just measure carefully, and purchase the best one for you, so your fan isn't too low or high.

LASKO 3733 BOX FAN 20" 3 SPEED BASIC ICE GRAY / WHITE Review

USES: These fans can be used just about anywhere they can stand with stability. For standing on your shop workbench, or floor, they provide feet to snap into place, to keep the fan stable. You need these feet because, when the fan is on medium or high, it will want to fall backwards. I like to use these fans in my windows, without the feet on of course. I just get it in the window the best I can, then close the window on it to hold it there. You want it in the window as stable as you can cause the fan will vibrate.

PERFORMANCE: I am really not that impressed with these ones, I was spoiled with my 22 inchers. These fans are not only smaller, but the construction of them are really flimsy. When operating, they do a lot of rattling, due to this flimsy construction. It really has a weak motor, meaning it takes time for it to start up, and high on it is like low on my 22" box fans.

On a hot summer day, I have to put this thing on high to be of any use. If its on high, it pushes enough to keep the air circulation going, and you won't be sweating. This fan does have one advantage over my 22 inchers though, its much quieter. At night, when it gets much cooler, I can put this fan on low. It acts kind of like air conditioning at night and is almost silent on low!

I don't like these in my workshop, they just don't push enough air to be of any use in commercial applications. They are great space savers though, and because they are so energy efficient, I can leave this fan on all night, to help me sleep, and not worry about a heavy power bill!

CONCLUSION: These fans are not as good as my 22 inchers by far. But they are quieter then the 22" box fans, and they can fit in smaller spaces, if thats an issue for you. I really dont like their flimsy construction though, or the weak motors. I keep thinking the vibration is going to tear itself apart one of these days. lol My recommendation, buy what you need, if you are happy with a 20", get one. But if your serious about power and longevity, you will buy the 22" model.

36 in. Heavy Duty High Volume 2 Speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan Review

This is my same review as the 30" version of this fan, they are both identical except for the size of course.

One star off for the cheap louvers, however there are upgraded aluminum extruded avaliable for a few dollars more. Now this is not a whisper quiet fan, it is however much quieter then the unit The Home Depot sells. You will know this fan is running so avoid placement near family/living/bedrooms. This unit comes with a high and low switch in decora style and have found it to be of good quality. Other then a set or two of louvers that got damaged during shipping I've had zero problems with all the units I have installed, and knock on wood have not had to replace a single motor. I find the motor supplied with this fan should last 10-15 years depending on how much you run the fan. I would highly avoid DIYers attempting an installation unless you have a good concept of framing and electrical as you will need to remove a joist to install this fan, the only exception would be if you got a set of truss style louvers and had an additional attic access hole large enough to fit this fan. The packaging the louvers come with have a template to trace onto the ceiling so you know where to cut, my advice when cutting out the template is to cheat inward on the line about 1/8th of an inch so you don't accidentally cut the hole too big. IMO the louver template is just sightly too big. I also recommended a spring round 12 hr timer which can be ganged together with the high/low switch if you know what you are doing. Overall a fantastic product, I'll continue to buy this fan for years to come. For the money it can't be beat.

The lamp comes with a pull chain in the center.The chain switch has four clicks: off, two lamps on, the other two lamps on, four lamps on.Although all four lamps point straight down in the attached photos (choose the color name of "Snow White" to see Customer Images), each lamp can be swivelled up to nearly 90 degrees; once positioned to the angle of your choice, the lamp stays put.

This lamp requires candelabra based bulbs.It comes with four 40w incandescent bulbs which we replaced with 13w candelabra soft light compact florescent bulbs.The CFCs are equivalent to 60w incandescents and are plenty bright because the exposed bulbs have NO glass globes restricting the light output.With the small 40w incandescents, the bulbs were 1.5" back from the shade end.The CFCs are nearly flush with the shade end.

Hunter 28225 18-Inch Downrod, Provencal Gold Review

I ordered a hunter fan that is egyptian bronze and the downrod matches perfectly. It is maybe a shade darker but you can not tell at all unless I told you. I also noticed that this downrod is really thick and solid campared to the one it replaced.

Hunter 56" Remote Ceiling Fan Valhalla Blonde Beech 23590 Review

The quality is superb and the design is a masterpiece. I had a friend install the fan on a 30 degree angled ceiling. He said it was easy to install. There is no wobble at hi or low speeds. The remote offers versatility. The only thing i dont like is when the lamp is dim and you press the off switch, the lamp goes to full brightness and then fades.

COLORliutcf Review

I bought this nice looking utility fan for my 2-car garage. Special-ordered from Lowes for the same price listed here.
The motor isn't reversible. A very bulky 5-speed wall switch is included in the box. Fan comes with a 1/2" x 12" downrod and j-hook mounting bracket. The j-hook won't accomodate a wireless controller, and it offsets the downrod from the center of the fan box.The offset was pretty noticeable since I used a surface-mount fan box. I suppose I could replace the j-hook with a universal ball and ball hanger to fix that.
Anyway, the reason I decided to take this back to Lowes is that it just doesn't move a lot of air. If I am directly beneath the blades on the highest setting, I feel a light breeze. If I step anywhere outside the 56" diameter of the fan, I don't feel anything - although it sounds like it's blowing a lot of air. I guess the problem is the shape and pitch of the blades. They look almost flat and parallel.
I replaced this fan with a Hampton Bay 60" Industrial fan, and the difference is night and day (and $10 cheaper). Of course it's a bigger fan, but I still expected more from a 56", as my garage is 18.5' x 20'.

Westinghouse #77015 Fan Blade Bal Kit Review

I was really excited about the price of this balancing kit ($.75 as of the time of this review.) But when I went to check out, I realized that they were charging $2.99 (at the time of this review) for EACH kit, not per order. It seems the only reason the price is so low, is to get it noticed. Then, after they get you reeled in, they stick you with a larger shipping charge. This is not the way to do business in my book. Avoid this seller. You can buy the same item at a local Lowe's for $1.97 + tax (at the time of this review) and you get three weights instead of two.

52" Casa Surveyor™ Oil Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan Review

I would give this fan 4, maybe even 5 stars, if the included wall control was remotely intelligent, but it pisses me off every time I use this fan, so it seriously takes away from my overall enjoyment of it.Let me just start off describing the wall control unit:there are two buttons and a rocker switch.The top button cycles through the fan speeds and the bottom button cycles through the light brightness, then the rocker is a master on/off switch.Each time you hit a button, there's an annoying audible series of tones that changes in pitch that is supposed to tell you which fan speed or brightness level it is on.Let me just say that I have owned the fan now for at least 6 months, and I have no idea how many brightness levels or fan speeds there are.It goes something like this:Slow -> Medium -> Fast -> Fastest -> Off.Try to imagine being able to tell visually the difference in fan speeds and you'll understand how completely stupid this is (or try to remember and decipher the audible morse code).For the light, the only definitive change is going from brightest to off.They could have made this 5x simpler, 1000x less annoying, and 5x faster by just replacing this brain-dead method with more buttons.

With that said, the fan itself is attractive and works quietly.However, I would hesitate to buy any more Casa products because I fear that they'll use this common control mechanism.In another room, I have a Minka Aire fan that, with a single push of a button, I can get exactly the light or fan speed I want.This drastic difference makes it even more annoying that I have to put up with the Casa control unit.
