Panasonic FV-11VFL2 110 CFM Low Profile Ceiling Mounted Fan with Light Review

I purchased 2 of these fans to retrofit 2 bathrooms on the 2nd floor of my house - from a different vendor.

One went into a regular size master bath and the other into your standard guest bathroom (both with 8 foot ceilngs).I was trying to go for maximum CFM for these 2 baths, but in hindsight, I probably didn't need so high of a CFM and could have done with the FV-08VFL2 model instead.And both baths would have been much quieter - even though these are still not very loud (everything is relative).These fans are so effective, I haven't seen ANY steam accumulate on the mirrors NO MATTER HOW HOT A SHOWER I TAKE.

These are HUGE improvements over what was originally installed - cheapy contractor specials that weren't even as nice as Home Depot Nutones.I wound up not having had to climb into the attic at all.If you're experienced and know what you're doing, you'll have an easy time installing these because EVERYTHING is modular and makes for easy installation.

The side manifold with ducting and electrical connections can be connected and screwed into the joist sepearately.I wound up using the included 4" to 3" adapter.If you used the provided template to cut the hole to necessary size (used blue tape to mark the ceiling), then you can just easily slide the fan housing into place and screw it in into the ceiling against the housing's flange/lip.Install the light module and bulbs, then the shroud, and you're good to go!Each job took no more than 2 hours (with breaks).

I wound up buying these fans from AUH Electric (SoCal).The price was about $[...] cheaper and shipping was quick/cheap.I normally buy everything from Amazon vendors (even my last 6 Panasonic fans), but this time, I found a better source.Price was $[...].[...]

You won't get any order acknowledgement and their customer service is friendly, if just a little slow/lacking.I will be buying 5 more fans from them in the next month.

Hunter 82042 Energy Star Bathroom Fan with Light, White Review

This fan is very quiet, but the description is bad, design is fair, and looks are fair.

- There is no way to turn off the night light. I assumed it would turn off when it was light in the room, but it does not. You can get a $2 night light that turns on/off with a light sensor, so why can't they put such a sensor on a $150 fan? I replaced the 4w incandescent night light with an LED since you can't turn it off and I don't want to have to replace the thing every month.

- The housing is not designed for installation into an existing hole. The hole needs to be much bigger than the housing due to the duct attachment point and very deep housing. I had to remove the duct and re-install with much difficulty once the housing was in place in the ceiling. The housing is 8" deep, making it a tight or even impossible fit in any place except a top floor bath.

- The grille is approximately 12x13 at the largest point, and the grille is curved, so it is about 10x11 at the corners. The 14.75" x 14.75" shown in the manufacturer's description might be including the box it came in. I don't know where they got that measurement.

- The light bulbs are low energy CFL with a two-prong conductor that I have never seen before. I checked my local big box store and could not find a replacement bulb. I hope the bulbs last a long time. What's wrong with a normal light bulb fixture?

- The design is ugly, kind of like a bulging belly sticking to your ceiling.

I specifically selected this model based on the advertised grille dimensions, hoping to cover up the hole from the old fan. Had I been able to get my hands on the thing in a store, I would never have purchased it. There was no store within 100 miles that had this fan, so I purchased based on the description. Amazon/manufacturer need to accurately describe the items they sell.

This is a disappointing purchase, especially at this price, but I decided to go ahead with the install since I have to assume that the other descriptions will be just as inaccurate and our old fan was already pulled. 2 stars only because it is very quiet.

Hunter 82003 Sand Dollar Bathroom Fan with Light, Brushed Nickel Review

Bought the fan for a small bathroom (80 sq feet) that has an "at the beach" theme.I was a bit worried about what the fan actually looked like but it looks great!The cover is rough (just like a sand dollar) and doesn't look cheap.It is relatively quiet and works fine.I might not recommend it for a large bathroom since it doesn't have the capacity to pull enough air but is fine for smaller bathrooms.

I bought this fan as a retrofit for a bathroom fan that died.The installation experience was painful at best.I'm not a professional electrician, but I have plenty of experience with this kind of project. Home Depot fans are significantly easier to install.I've installed the Panasonic and a few Nutones and I can say that I'll probably just buy a Nutone for the next time I need to do this job.

Pros:
*Moves A LOT of air!
*Uses fluorescent lights.
*Quieter than the builders special that I replaced.
*Great price compared to retail.
* Arrived very quickly. I'd buy from this Amazon retailer again.

Cons:
*The supplied mounting rails are flimsy.I had to build up a wooden frame to hold the fan body.
*Instruction set is poorly written.You will pretty much have to guess.
*Unnecessarily complex installation. It took me more hours than I care to admit to install this thing.
*The electrical junction box is not big enough to contain all the wires after it gets wired up.If you plan to install this in your attic you will find it very awkward to wire this thing up because the angle at which you will have to work while balancing yourself on joists will kill your back and neck.Also, half the body of the junction box will be obscured from your vision.
*Even though I created a very secure base to connect the fan body to, I will still need to attach some kind of sound dampening to kill some minor resonation of the body.

Hunter 83001 Riazzi Bathroom Fan with Light and Nightlight, Brushed Nickel Review

I was searching for an attractive replacement for my previous bathroom light/fan combo that had a decidedly utilitarian look.I found that Hunter makes the best selection of decorative light/fan units, and this one has the most powerful fan of all the ones they offer.I was concerned that the fan might be too loud, but I got this one anyway because I needed a fan that would really move air well since we were having trouble with condensation and mildew in the bathroom.I was pleased to find that noise is not a problem at all.The fan is actually quieter than my old fan, and it is much more powerful.When I am in the bathroom I can hear it running, but it is not loud enough to be bothersome.Outside in the hallway, I don't notice the sound.It does its job of drying out the bathroom after a shower very well.

I have two relatively minor points of criticism.(1) When the light is on, you can clearly see the shadows of brackets and other internal parts of the fan through the glass band that runs along the side of the unit.This is not aesthetically pleasing.Perhaps if the side glass was thicker, the shadows would have a fuzzier, more diffuse appearance and would be less noticeable.(2) We were not able to use the nightlight function because we only have two switches on the wall and we didn't want to run new wiring in the bathroom.Rarely do I see a bathroom with three wall switches, so I suspect others may find this to be a problem as well.We could have chosen to wire the nightlight so that it would come on with either the fan or the main light, but it was hard to see what the benefit of that would be.A nice addition would be an electronic eye that turns the nightlight on when the room is dark.
